The Minaret Calls #WeekendCoffeeShare

If we were having coffee…

I would tell you about my creative writing class I had over the weekend. First one since I started at the OU.

We were given an exercise where we had to choose a picture and just write. We had only 45 minutes for this. I am usually attracted to colours, but this time I chose a black and white picture and started writing. I am sharing this here because I was surprised with what I came up with and also because even though it is very short I want to remember.

Enjoy!

The Minaret Calls

It is that time of the day, the 4th call, where she will not be denied attention, for at this time she holds the power.

Like a siren call the seamen hear and become hypnotised, worshippers will be enthralled by her chimes.

Her need for replenishment is great so she needs to feed, but slaughter she does not bring. Instead she blesses with peace all who give her their time as an offering.

That day, Kazeem was in the crowd just like any other day. But that particular evening he heard the call of the minaret addressed solely to him.
Everything around him stood still. The crowd seemed to disappear although he knew every soul to be present. But that call to him was disarming.

She craved his prayer, you know, the one that your soul gives…not just the chanting,

As he started to match his steps to those of the crowd and in her direction, he looked up and found himself in awe of her beauty. The minaret was standing tall above all in her strength, and while the sun blessed her in light, she truly became the lighthouse of Islam in that moment.

There was nothing he could do, so he carried on walking, and the closer he got to the mosque, the more she seemed majestic.

So, he bowed in respect and made the conscious decision that on that day and every other day after, he will open his soul to her and let in her power.

#WeekendCoffeeShare is back! This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in! Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory

Nice! I would sit and stare at the photo for 45 minutes! I wish I was more creative.
