Book Review: “Legend” by Marie Lu

I discovered Marie Lu in the later part of 2014, she is however quite well known in the YA read community. I did feel a bit bad to not know about her. It was like discovering a secret that everyone knew about. I am sure you know how it feels to be “late at the party”.
The only way to get over that little awkward “in my head” moment, was to read her…so, I did and here is what I think.

I must first of all say that this book surprised me.
I did not know what to expect and was not disappointed as it was quite an entertaining and intriguing read.

The story follows two young characters June and Day, leading two extremely different lifestyles.
Day lives in extreme poverty, trying to provide for a family believing him dead, while June lives a more comfortable lifestyle all the while studying to become a deadly soldier.

Both characters see their worlds collide when a crime is committed and Day is framed for it.
June has to then come to terms with all the lies she has been fed and face the truth of the world she lives in.

Although having encountered very similar story lines in other writings, what made this book different was the author’s writing style and the mini bombshells dropped as the story unfolded; the scene with Day’s mother, the question mark on Thomas’ s character, to name but a few.
The unexpected elements and twists and turns really kept me reading.

I am looking forward to see how this series develop in the second instalment.

I would recommend Legend to any fan of this genre
