Synopsis from 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the author for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I am always very reflective when I rate a book with a less than 3 stars rating. I tend to be mindful of how the author will receive the mark. My approach here is to remain honest and respectful at all times of the work of the author and I hope that it will show in this review.

First of all, let me say that it was an easy to and entertaining read.

My main issue with this novel resides in its concept and how the reader is introduced to. I was happy with the magical theme however the manner in which it was presented treaded over the sci-fi realm too many times.

The main example coming to mind is the beginning Val’s journey, the main character. She is seen to travel across light years to a constructed planet situated in a black hole and the only way to get there is via a portal in Egypt, a portal very reminiscent of the Stargate TV series…without the gate. The other alien element, rather than magical is seen in the character of Thai who has the ability to make clones of himself and is also the actual vessel for the cloned being.

This same sci-fi analogy also presents itself with Val’s power which is one of super strength not unlike the very popular comics born characters.
There are however moments in this book, borrowed from our favourite tales such as the adventures of King Arthur, vampires and unicorns are also presents. Although those elements are easily identified with magic, they are only lightly explored.

The focus of this tale was on the numerous battles Val got involved in, again making more of a display of her fighting skills. For all these reasons, I feel that the magical identity of this piece was lost. It may be further explored in future installments.
